Track08 - Bread n' Butter

Monday, February 27, 2006

XperDunn's Feb. 20th, 2006 Concert at S____ Manor

This morning I play Rock n' Roll, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and a few Swedish Folk Songs just for luck.
Track03 - Barbara Ann

Track06 - Blueberry Hill

Track02 - Big Girls Don't Cry

Track01 - All Shook Up

Track04 - Be-Bop-A-Lu-La

Track05 - Be True To Your School

Track07 - Bobby's Girl

Track09 - Book Of Love

Track12 - Chantilly Lace

Track10 - Bye bye Love

Track11 - Catch A Wave

Track13 - Come And Go With Me

I realize here that Rock n'Roll is simpler but more physically demanding, and switch to a book of Swedish Folk Songs. Don't ask me why.
Track14 - Five Swedish Folk Songs

Track15 - Two More Swedish Folk Songs

For the next ten songs I worked from my Jerome Kern songbook, with uneven results.
Track16 - A Fine Romance

Track18 - Just The Way You Look Tonight

Track17 - Pick Yourself Up

Friday, February 24, 2006

These next 3: 'Dearly Beloved', 'I'm Old-Fashioned', and 'You Were Never Lovelier', all by Jerome Kern, were used in an old movie titled 'You Were Never Lovelier' starring Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth. The previous weekend I had watched a DVD of the movie and had been inspired to practice the songs, so I thought I was ready. In my own defense, I don't think much of these particular piano arrangements, especially 'Dearly Beloved'.
Track19 - Dearly Beloved

Track21 - I'm Old-Fashioned

Track20 - You Were Never Lovelier

Track23 - Long Ago And Far Away

Track22 - Can't Help Singing

Track24 - Sure Thing

Track25 - In Love In Vain

Here I switch from the Jerome Kern to the Cole Porter Collection Vol I for the next five or so songs. I love Cole Porter. Does that make me gay? I don't care.
Track27 - From This Moment On

Track26 - So In Love

Track28 - It's Alright With Me

Track30 - Dream Dancing

Track29 - I Love Paris (fragment)

Track31 - True Love

Thursday, February 23, 2006

At this point in the program, I decide to fall back on the Irving Berlin songbook I'd had so much luck with last week (see Feb 13th Concert Menu). The next ten songs are the unfortunate result:

Track32 - After You Get What You Want

Track33 - Always

Track34 - Blue Skies

Track35 - Cheek to Cheek

Track36 - We're A Coupla Swells

Track37 - Count My Blessings

Track38 - The Girl That I Marry

Who knew 'God Bless America' had an intro?
Track39 - God Bless America

I proceed to slaughter an otherwise great song, Irving Berlin's 'I Love A Piano'.
I even messed up the editing, so the end of the song is missing. Sorry bout dat.
Track40 - I Love A Piano

Finally, I thought. That was acceptable, although I was too tired to sing along, as I had last week. I shoulda stopped here.
Track41 - Isn't It A Lovely Day?

Track42 - All my eggs

I was unable to finish this piece. I gave up in disgust. Taking a swig from my Poland Spring, I noticed my left arm was trembling with fatigue. Aha! I thought. No wonder I couldn't play worth a damn this morning.
Some you win some you don't. Wait til next week. O Boy O Boy. Next week we'll really tear'm up.
